‘All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was.’ The title refers to the inner creative force, which the writer Toni Morrison described in her talk ‘The Site of Memory’- also the source of authenticity, urgency and relevance in many art works.
The tripych was shot in various low-fi video formats on Suomenlinna, Finnland (Hi8, 2004), at the Niagara Falls, Canada (digital video, 2009), and Mani, Greece (GoPro, 2010)
“You know, they straightened out the Mississippi River in places to make room for houses & liveable acreage. Occasionally the river floods these places. ‘Floods’ is the word they use, but in fact it is not flooding; it is remembering. Remembering where it used to be. All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was. Writers are like that… Like water, I remember where I was before I was straightened out.” – Toni Morrison, The Site of Memory
